Creche thanks corporates

ALEXANDRA - Ntokozweni Day Care and Community Centre hosted Standard Bank and Meals on Wheels Community Services employees who developed a garden to improve the centre's food security.

The centre’s principal, Flora Manaka said the garden and support from other corporates have helped keep the centre’s doors open.

She expressed gratitude to the Airports Company of South Africa for revamping the centre’s kitchen on Mandela Day. “We are now able to provide meals to children on time, have reliable and hygienic storage facilities, and equipment that stores food longer and reduces wastage,” she said.

Manaka encouraged more corporates to give generously to early childhood development centres which operated on tight budgets. Parents of pupils were mostly unemployed and could not afford to pay fees, however there was some funding from the Department of Social Development.

She added that by supporting these centre’s it was investing in the national human resource base for the future.
