Toys for Thandeka’s children

ALEXANDRA - Joy was written all over the faces of children at Thandeka Daycare Centre in 18th Avenue when they received their play equipment in the form of toys from the Alexandra Adult Centre.

Joy was written all over the faces of the children at Thandeka Daycare Centre on 18th Avenue when they received their play equipment and toys from the Alexandra Adult Centre.

The adult centre donated the toys to the children which were produced by their students using recyclable materials. “We chose this particular daycare as they are in desperate need of toys for the children in their play school,” said Godfrey Mokoena, a teacher at the adult centre and member of the school governing body.

Lungelwa Mali, the daycare owner. She described the donation of toys as handy as they would fill the school’s play areas and assist with the children’s learning. “Ï am short for words to express our gratitude to the adult centre but they can rest assured that the toys will be put into good use,” she said.

Mali also said the play school was in desperate need of painting of its classrooms. “We also need food and other items such as clothing for our less fortunate children,” Mali added.

The adult centre, which operates from the Alex campus of the Central Johannesburg College, has evening classes that provide education not just for adults, but also targets unemployed youth, school leavers and those hoping to re-write their matric exams.

“We also cater for those people who are already working, but desire to complete or upgrade their matric subjects,” Mokoena added.
