No ruling as yet on future of bully boy

ALEXANDRA - The Gauteng Department of Education is yet to make a ruling on the possible expulsion of the Alexandra High School bully boy.

The Gauteng Department of Education is yet to make a ruling on the possible expulsion of the Alexandra High School bully.

A disciplinary committee comprising members of the school governing body held a meeting at the school on 4 September and recommended that the boy be expelled from the school. The recommendation was sent to the department.

The departmental spokesperson Pumla Sekhonyane confirmed receipt of the outcome of the disciplinary hearing and said the head of department was considering the recommendations of the committee and would make a ruling soon

Despite numerous requests sent by Alex News to Sekhonyane to indicate what ruling had been made, if any, or when a ruling would be made, no response had been forthcoming from Sekhonyane.

The boy assaulted classmate Refiloe Ndlovu (16), a Grade 9 pupil, on 27 August on school grounds as a reprimand for speaking IsiXhosa.

The boy, who is said to have been bullying Ndlovu since their arrival at the school last year, ordered Ndlovu not to speak IsiXhosa as it was not a Xhosa school. There was an exchange of words and the boy then viciously assaulted the girl, leaving her unconscious. She had to taken by ambulance for treatment.
