Two Alex teenagers stand a chance of breaking a world record if they can organise sponsorship for a challenge called Mt Kili madness.com.

Their world record attempt will see them take part in an epic cricket match on 27 September against some of the world greats of cricket at the highest altitude on Mount Kilimanjaro, Kenya. They will be playing at 5 700m which will be 600m higher that the current world record set in 2009.

The world record will be in aid of three charities; Cancer Research UK, Tusk which deals with anti poaching, and the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation.

The teenagers Robert Moloisane and Raymond Lebokana are budding cricket players of the Alexandra Township Chiefs Cricket Club which is affiliated to the innovative One Man Stands, a league formed for charitable reasons. The league helps talented cricket youngsters in various countries to reach their potential, acquire discipline and heighten their awareness of social issues.

The boys have been encouraged to participate by former cricketer, Makhaya Ntini and Aliya Bauer, a former cricket scorer and umpire who will also be participating. The boys will be pitted against English international cricketers such as Clare Connor, Heather Knight, Ashley Giles and David Gower.

The event is attracting international media coverage and interested sponsors will benefit from advertising on the stumps, bats, caps, tents, pitch, banners, event documents and website.

Moloisane is awaiting admission to university and relies on his grandmother’s old age grant and his father’s meagre income from a recycling business. Pleading for sponsorship he said, “If we make it, we will dedicate the world record to the entire country.” His granny Dorinan Maluleke said any support would not be in vain as the boys were focused, disciplined and goal oriented.

The total amount needed for both boys is R200 000 for expedition and park fees, flights, accommodation and clothing.
