One tablet thief nabbed, two run away

ALEXANDRA - Community members in 18th Avenue close to Florence Mphosho Street answered a distress call from two young women and apprehended one suspected 'tablet' thief while his two colleagues bolted.

Residents of 18th Avenue answered a distress call from two young women and apprehended one suspected thief, but his two colleagues managed to run away.

The two young women said they were on their way to a friend’s house in 18th Avenue close to Florence Mphosho Street, when they where approached by three men. One of them grabbed a tablet notepad belonging to one of the girls estimated to cost more than R10 000.

The men then fled the scene, but the two women screamed for help and community members came out in their numbers and gave chase. They managed to apprehend one suspect while his partners in crime got away with the tablet.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said his officers were called to the scene and arrested the Tsutsumani man while the manhunt was still on for the other two. The suspect will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of common robbery.
