Hawker beats up Metro police officer
ALEXANDRA - An angry hawker trading outside the Pan Africa Mall allegedly beat up a Metro police officer who had come to confiscate his goods for trading illegally.
A hawker trading outside the Pan Africa Mall allegedly beat up a Metro police officer who had come to confiscate his goods for trading illegally.
The officer, who is stationed at the Marlboro Testing Station, said he had approached the hawker to inform him about the offence of illegally trading on the pavement when the hawker punched him in the face and kicked him.
He is said to have grabbed the officer by the neck and tried to throttle him. A police officer nearby came to his rescue and arrested the suspect. He was detained at the Alexandra police cells awaiting an appearance at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of common assault.
