ACSA donates school shoes

ALEXANDRA - The Airports Company of South Africa has extended a helping hand to school children struggling with essential clothing needs.

The Airports Company of South Africa has extended a helping hand to school children struggling with essential clothing needs.

They donated 208 pairs of shoes to pupils of Carter and Emfundisweni primary schools.

Gloria Phasha of the company said the donation was part of their corporate social responsibility programme. She said the programme’s focus on schools was in its fourth year.

“Each year we kick-start the programme in June with a fire safety campaign to create awareness in children on safety measures as many of them stay in informal settlements where shacks fires are frequent in winter,” she said.

Phasha added that the company’s policy was to support schools and community projects near airports and Alexandra’s proximity to OR Tambo airport made it a perfect match.

Also, they involved staff members from Alexandra in selecting suitable beneficiaries as they have more knowledge of the area.

She stated that the company wanted to increase their help of schools through partnerships. “This is to ensure the provision of integrated educational support which has been done in other schools through partnership with Childline South Africa on counselling services for the children, counselling skills training for teachers and maths tutoring.”
