Centenarian gets his loo

ALEXANDRA - At the ripe age of 105 years old, Alexandra's oldest citizen Johannes Mdelwa Nkosi is finally the proud owner of his own toilet facility.

At the ripe age of 105, one of Alexandra’s oldest citizens, Johannes Mdelwa Nkosi is finally the proud owner of his own toilet facility.

This is courtesy of Cashbuild, Alex songstress Nkiyase Mondlana, Soweto musician Mandla Spikiri and the local community radio station, Alex FM, who teamed up together to build Nkosi his own loo after sharing one with nine other families most of his life.

Sharing the toilet at his age had made life for him incredibly difficult. Cashbuild, through its Cashbuild DIY store located in Alexandra and its other partners in the project, decided to build a new bathroom and toilet facilities for the centenarian.

This was handed over to Nkosi and his caregiver and son-in-law Ishmael Mokoena, who thanked everybody that was involved in the project and said this has made life more comfortable for the man, who is now not at his best health because of old age age.

“You have not just made his day but you have at the same time lightened the load on my shoulders, as we also needed a bit of privacy at his age… I do not have the words to express the gratitude we have but I am sure the Lord Almighty will do that on our behalf by blessing you all for the project,” Mokoena said.

“We are equally speechless but grateful to have been of assistance to the old man and also made his life… a lot easier. I wish this had come a lot earlier,” said the CEO of Cashbuild Werner De Jager, as he handed the keys of the facility to the centenarian.

Community builders, Spikiri and Mondlana, through their companies Spikiri Entertainment, Kalawa Jazmee and Relay Concepts, in partnership with Alex FM, approached Cashbuild with the view of sourcing assistance for Nkosi and other families of Alexandra through their annual Alex Easter Charity Show.

The Alex Easter Charity Show is Spikiri’s initiative aimed at raising funds for the needy in Alexandra.

“It warms my heart that I can be able to make this sort of contribution and especially for a gentlemen of this age,” Spikiri said.

“I am grateful to be part of this initiative and all my gratitude goes to Cashbuild and Alex FM for their marvellous efforts in community building and wish the spirit of ubuntu continues into the foreseeable future,” Mondlana said.

“Our mandate as the community radio station is to continue making a difference and to serve the community,” said Alex FM station manager, Trinity Mohlamme.
