‘Kgololo Academy not a Mickey Mouse school’

ALEXANDRA - Co-founder of Alexandra's world class school Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha has assured prospective pupils and parents that her school will not be a mickey mouse institution.

Co-founder of Alexandra’s world-class school, Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha has assured prospective pupils and parents that her school, Kgololo Academy would not be a Mickey Mouse institution.

She was speaking in an exclusive interview with Alex News at the Methodist Church in 2nd Avenue. The school will be based at the church until suitable premises were found.

Although Kgololo Academy has found a home, the school was still in the market for what will become its permanent home, said Tolbert-Mbatha, a United States citizen who along with her husband, Thulani are the co-founders of the school. The school is set to open its doors for Grade R and pre-R classes next year.

Tolbert-Mbatha said her Khulula Foundation had signed a two-year lease with the church to house her school. “We are going to open in instalments,” she said. “First will be the pre-R and Grade R classes which will progress onwards until those children reach matric level, and hence we hope to find something bigger within Alex in the next two years, something that we can renovate as opposed to building.

“We want to provide the community of Alexandra with a school they can call their own and be proud of, as it will offer their children the highest standard of education comparable to other private schools in the country and the world over. This is not going to be a Mickey Mouse school,” Tolbert-Mbatha said.
