Alex High revamped on Mandela Day

ALEXANDRA - Alexandra high school got a well deserved revamp and partnership on Mandela day.

Alexandra High School received a well-deserved revamp and news of an educational partnership on Mandela Day.

The school which is situated in the heart of Alexandra has a rich heritage of the struggle and produced several national leaders.

Risk insurance company, Marsh, sent its Sandton staff members to give the school a new coat of paint, and company representative took the opportunity to announce the company’s corporate social responsibility education project with the school.

“The partnership will be for an initial three year period to improve the school’s efficiency and performance, and will include infrastructure development and upgrades, teacher training, curriculum development and career guidance/development for learners,” she said.

The school improved its pass rate to 88 percent last year from 50 percent the previous year. Commending the new partnership, the school’s principal Zoleka Lebelo said Marsh’s contribution would enhance the environment for learning, and would put a smile on the faces of pupils who were determined to improve this year’s pass rate to 100 percent.

Meanwhile, the company’s staff teamed with pupils and school staff members for the painting task which lasted beyond the symbolic 67 seven minutes as they worked methodically until completion in the afternoon.
