Police in Alexandra are hunting for suspects allegedly involved in a robbery of a foreign-owned shop.

According to police reports, the 24-year-old shop owner was sitting in his shop in the early hours of the evening when he heard a commotion outside. He kept switching his inside and outsides lights on and off to warn anyone that there was someone inside.

After doing this for a couple of minutes, he heard a loud bang on the door and someone calling him to open the door. They then forcefully opened the door after he refused to. Several people entered the shop and demanded money.

When he said he had no money as it was not kept on the premises overnight, they helped themselves to his stock, taking goods worth about R70 000. Police said the shop owner does not know the suspects and how many there were.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said they were still investigating a case of robbery.
