Man smashes police station doors

ALEXANDRA - Police have detained a man who broke down the glass doors of the station after being refused a room to sleep.

Alex police have detained a man who broke down the glass doors of the police station after being refused a room to sleep.

The man will appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of malicious damage to property. Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the man, who was familiar with a number of the officers at the station as he was a frequent visitor, had arrived at the station and demanded to be offered a room to sleep.

When he was refused the room and the glass doors were locked as a precautionary measure, the man is said to have become angry at the decision to deny him a room to sleep. He then smashed and broke down the glass doors. The man was then arrested and detained by the police. The cost of fixing the doors was estimated at R8 000.

Do you think police stations should offer places to sleep to people?
