Carter puplis fed on youth day

ALEXANDRA - All one thousand six hundred students at Carter primary school started last weekend on full stomachs.

All 1 600 pupils of Carter Primary School had full stomachs on Youth Day.

Together with their mothers, pupils were treated to a nutritious meal of pap, vegetables, soup and juice by Uniliver as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and contribution to celebrating Youth Day. The meals were provided at nearby Alexandra High school due to lack of space at their own school.

The feeding scheme which has been running for a year in four provinces – Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Limpopo – targets school children and is provided through mobile kitchens.

Caroline Machabaphala of Uniliver said the feeding scheme was also intended to instil the importance of nutritious low salt intake eating, and mothers and their children bonding by sharing a meal together.

The feeding scheme has been to schools in Pimville and Mamelodi in Gauteng province and targets 15 000 beneficiaries countrywide.
