ALEXANDRA -Two men were locked in a fierce battle over allegations of a stolen cellphone.

Two men were locked in a fierce battle over allegations of a stolen cellphone.

A 2nd Avenue nightshift worker woke up in broad daylight to his wife’s wild screams as she came running into the house and claimed she was being beaten up by a stranger.

The stranger followed her into the house.

When the husband asked the stranger why he was beating up his wife, the stranger said she had stolen his cellphone. When asked what kind of cellphone and the stranger replied that he did not know, the husband then ordered him to leave his yard.

But before the man left, he warned the couple that he would be back. After short while, the husband heard people screaming outside that a man had a knife. The husband then locked his main door but the suspect kicked the door open.

The husband grabbed a knobkerrie and the two fought fiercely before being separated by a crowd of onlookers. As they were being separated, the stranger managed to sneak in and stabbed the victim’s right hand.

After the separation and stabbing, the victim decided to go to Alex Clinic for treatment – but the stranger followed him and another round of fighting ensued. Onlookers then called the police who arrested the stranger.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela confirmed the arrest and said the suspect will soon appear in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm.
