PAC advocates for title deeds

The Pan African Congress of South Africa is joining pleas for the issuing of title deeds to Alexandra residents but for the newer developments.

Thousands claims were lodged almost twenty years ago with the national land claims commission for property and land which residents were dispossessed of in the past between 1st and 20th Avenues. Recently, pronouncements were made in newspapers and also by the former Deputy Minister for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation that 14 of the claims had been approved as they were uncontested. The deputy minister went further to state that President Jacob Zuma would be coming to Alexandra to issue them to the claimants and this is still to happen. The Alexandra Land and Property Owners’ Association (ALPOA) has been in the forefront of lobbying for the restoration of the title deeds and have had to seek legal advice to try speed up the process.

The PAC has joined this process through a recent announcement but though for newer developments. They call on home owners of River Park to come forward and demand their title deeds from the City of Joburg. In a statement, the party says it is drafting a data base of those who qualified. “People must get title deeds because they have been staying in the houses for five years which entititles them to claim the title deeds.”
