A thief is on the run in Alexandra after he allegedly removed a battery from a parked car.

Alex police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the victim had parked his car in the parking lot of the Alex Plaza shopping centre.

Upon his return, he tried to start his car but it wouldn’t. He opened the bonnet and discovered that his battery was missing. Maphakela said the police were still investigating a case of theft from a motor vehicle.

In another case, an Alex man was surprised when he received a call from a loan shark in Pretoria asking him to come and pay his debt of R6 000.

As the 17th Avenue man had recently lost his identity document, he immediately suspected that someone must have pinched it to commit fraud.

The victim told police he had never opened a loan account and had never been to Pretoria.

Maphakela said no arrest had been made in connection with this case and that police were still investigating.

And in another incident, a thief broke into the house of a 19th Avenue man, and stole a cellphone and a video camera to the total value of R4 000.

Maphakela said the police were still investigating a case of housebreaking and theft.
