Mothers enjoy concert at the zoo

Crowds of revelers with picnic bags in hand gathered on the lawns of Johannesburg Zoo to listen to live performances from local musicians in celebration of Mother’s Day.

South African performers Elvis Blue and Jamali, accompanied by The Chamber Orchestra of Johannesburg and under the baton of musician and conductor Kutlwano Masote, took to the stage to entertain the masses.

Acapella group, Complete, didn’t disappoint either as they celebrated the 10-year-anniversary of the death of Brenda Fassie with some of her hits.

The little ones appeared to have as a good of a time as the moms as they spent the day exploring the zoo.

Talk Radio 702 station manager, Pheladi Gwangwa said the concert offered the perfect soundtrack to a family day out.

Young mother, Puleng Moloi said she enjoyed the atmosphere that had been created by 702 and the zoo.

“My little one can run around and play with other kids while I get to enjoy the concert – it’s a perfect day for moms and their kids,” she said.

The 702 Mother’s Day Concert at the Zoo has been running since 1991 and is now an institution on the Gauteng calendar.

Families from across the province and from diverse backgrounds come together each year to share something we all have in common – our gratitude to our moms.
