Kgololo Academy, a world-class school for Alexandra which will open its doors in 2015, will be the first independent and university preparatory school in the community.

According to founding member, Waahida Tolbert-Mbatha the ultimate goal is to place all students on the path to university by providing them with an academically challenging education, steeped in social justice.

“We will open on 5 January with Pre-R and Grade R pupils and will grow a grade each year until we reach Grade 12,” Tolbert-Mbatha said. Kgololo Academy teachers will be responsible for ensuring that every child achieves the academic skills, habits and character traits necessary to succeed in the nation’s top tertiary institutions, she added.

The academy has already advertised for teacher candidates, and is looking for teachers with a recognised teaching qualification focused on early childhood development, with a minimum of two years experience.

Preferred teachers should also be highly fluent in English and Zulu, and be able to commit to an extended school day, week, and year.

The teachers should above all display a strong willingness to be flexible, and to go above and beyond to meet the needs of Kgololo Academy pupils, Tolbert-Mbatha added.
