Landlord beats up tenant for using his toilet

ALEXANDRA - Apartheid may be a thing of the past but a landlord in Alexandra still has separate toilets strictly for himself only and others for tenants.

One tenant made the mistake of using his landlord’s toilet and for that, he allegedly received a severe beating from his landlord. The victim also claims the landlord destroyed his shack.

The victim said he went to his usual toilet when nature called but found it occupied.

He went back to the toilet a few minutes later but still found it busy. He said because the call of nature was becoming irritating, he eventually decided to go into his landlord’s toilet.

The landlord spotted him going in, but only confronted the victim when he exited the bathroom. The victim said the landlord allegedly wanted to know why he was using the toilet and said it was strictly his and not to be used by tenants.

“Before I could answer, the landlord, who had an ax in-hand, started chopping down the door to my shack and then picked up a brick smashed my left arm,” the victim said.

Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the landlord has since been arrested and will appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court soon on a charge of malicious damage to property and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Do you think it is a good thing in the new South Africa for tenants and landlord to have separate toilets?
