Beware of handbag snatchers, police

ALEXANDRA - Police in Alexandra have issued a warning to women to hold tight to their handbags.

This follows a spate of incidents where women’s handbags have been snatched. Alex police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the incidents of bag snatching were rife in the vicinity of the Pan Africa Shopping Mall.

“We urge women to hold tight onto their handbags as they can easily be snatched by these grabbers,” Maphakela said. The latest victim was a 22-year-old woman who’s bag was snatched by a man.

Inside her handbag was her Blackberry cellphone, a purse and a jersey, to the value of R4 000. It was not divulged how much money was in the purse. The police are investigating.
