Man behind Sanral threats in court

JOBURG - A call centre agent, who was arrested in connection with multiple threats against Sanral, was expected to appear in court on the morning of 31 January.

The 28-year-old man, who is facing charges related to acts of terrorism, was expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, Sanral has distanced itself from the alleged perpetrator, and said he was technically not one of the road agency’s employees.

According to Sanral spokesperson, Vusi Mona the building from which the man was arrested was occupied by Electronic Toll Collection.

“The individual arrested works for a service provider on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project and is not a Sanral employee, as has been mistakenly reported,” Mona said in a statement.

Sanral’s central operations centre was evacuated three times this month, twice following an anthrax scare and once for a bomb hoax.
