DA to bring charges against ANCYL

JOBURG - The DA intends to bring a charge of incitement of violence against the ANC Youth League following the constituent’s response to the opposition party’s decision to march to Luthuli House in Johannesburg.

Shortly after the DA announced it would march to the ANC’s headquarters taking up the “fight for jobs”, the ANC Youth League released a statement which warned the opposition party of the ramifications of doing so.

The youth league said the march would be a “direct provocation of more than 400 000 members of the ANC Youth League who will defend it at any time of the day”.

“Should the DA dare march to Chief Albert Luthuli House – they shall face the full anger of ANC Youth League members and the Progressive Youth Alliance,” the youth league said in its statement.

“Their march to Cosatu House provoked members of Cosatu and became violent in 2012; that march and its aftermath was nothing compared to what our members can do […].”

According to the DA’s Gauteng leader John Moodey, the youth league’s statement “blatantly” called for violent action against DA members.

Moodey said the DA had taken precautions to ensure that the march on 4 February would be peaceful and orderly.

“Unfortunately the ANC Youth League has responded with intolerant threats of violence. I will open a case of incitement of violence against them,” Moodey said.
