It was a joyous day as Alex’s oldest resident celebrated his 104th birthday on Wednesday. To celebrate the big day, Johannes Nkosi was honoured with a party organised by the Thusong Youth Centre and Alex FM.
The party, which was attended by some of Nkosi’s family members and friends, was held at the centre.
Nkosi, who looked stylish in a black suit, made a grand entrance in his chauffeured limousine and slowly made his way to the table.
Seated next to him was his friend Beauty More who works at the centre. She described Nkosi a good person and said she was happy to be part of the celebration. “May God bless him,” More said.
Nkosi’s only grandson, Mandla Nkosi was beaming with joy. “It is an honour to be here and witness something like this. He is the best grandfather in the whole world and I have learnt a lot from him,” Nkosi said.
He described his grandfather as a humble person and said that’s the reason why he has lived such a long life. “He is always happy and laughing. He’s a very wise and humble man and I also love the way he carries himself.” Although Nlkosi lost his wife in 2008, Mandla still sees their marriage as an inspiration. “They had a beautiful and serious marriage. They knew what they wanted and were very blessed.”
