SuperSport signs Alex football sensation

ALEXANDRA - A talented player from FC Alexandra makes waves in the Premier Soccer League.

Former FC Alexandra wing superstar Lebohang Manyama is dazzling with his soccer skills in the Premier Soccer League and has become the envy of many players in the country’s prestigious league.

Manyama, who started his football career with Sheffield Football Club in Alexandra before moving up the ranks to join former Bafana Bafana and Ajax Cape Town ace midfielder Alfred Maimane Phiri’s FC Alexandra outfit, was quickly snapped up by Ajax Cape Town after only two seasons with FC.

Now, his creative and exciting brand of play has caught the eye of SuperSport United coach Cavin Johnson, who has described him as a player destined for greater heights. “I have signed him and given the player a three-and-a-half year deal because I think he will be a fantastic addition to my squad,” said Johnson. “We have got a lot of fixtures coming up and so we are going to need a good squad of quality players for that, and we hope Lebo will blend it nicely with the rest of the players we have.”

The 23-year-old has been signed for R600 000 and has joined United in time for the premiership visit to Orlando Pirates on 18 January.

Manyama played for Ajax for three years with the winger netting 15 goals in 71 starts for the Urban Warriors which earned him a call-up to the national team.

The Alex-born player has attributed his decision to join Matsatsantsa because of the brand of football the team is associated with and the man steering the ship, Johnson. “The coach was a very big factor for me,” he said. “He showed me from the beginning that he really wanted me. The team has some fantastic players in their ranks and I have admired their style of play for a while now. My main goal is to contribute positively to the success of the club.”

His agent, Phiri said Manyama was a versatile player who could fit into any role upfront. “I got the boy from Balfour Alexandra Football Club where he did not have much game time and I turned him into the star he is today,” said Phiri.
