Smooth start at Carter Primary School

ALEXANDRA - The first day of school went smoothly at Carter Primary School.

There were smiles, tears and laughter as Grade 1 pupils made their way to school on Wednesday.

This was a big day for the little ones who stepped into “big school” for the first time. Some were accompanied by their parents while others walked in pairs to get to school.

A cheerful Ayanda Mabaso (5) could not hide his excitement. “It is good to be here. I’m a big girl now and I am happy to be here. When I grow up I want to be a teacher,” the Grade 1 Carter pupil said.

Seated next to her was six-year-old Mbali Khumalo who said she was not scared to be in “big school”. “I have already made friends and I can’t wait to play with them,” she said. While some had already made friends, others were still trying to find their way around the school. A quiet Nkosinathi Madondo, who was wandering around the school alone, said he was looking forward to making new friends. “I’m happy,” the six-year-old said.

According to school principal, Siva Naicker things were running smoothly.

“Everyone has settled in and we are ready to start. Pupils have received their timetables and stationery – teaching and learning begins today,” Naicker said.

As expected, there were late applicants at the school. “We are not taking any late admissions and have referred them to the department of education,” he explained.
