Alex woman’s grant woes over

ALEXANDRA - A delighted Alex woman has had her grant restored after six months of struggle.

Alexandra resident Sandile Mbuyane started her year on a good note. The single mother, who hadn’t received her grant from the South African Social Security Agency since July 2013, finally got what was due to her. “I received the money on the first of this month. I was very happy when I finally received it because my kids and I had a black Christmas. It was really tough,” she said.

Although she can now buy food and stationary for her children, Mbuyane said she was disappointed at the amount.

“I was supposed to get [about] R2 100 but I only received R1 762. Which means the money for January is not in.”

Security agency spokesperson Steve Mabona said, according to their records, there is no outstanding amount due to Mbuyane.

“Our beneficiary Sandile Mbuyane was paid R290 in August and R290 September 2013 respectively, and R300 for October 2013 to January 2014 [which was] R1200. It must be indicated that the entire amount was paid accordingly,” Mabona said.
