Charity organisation saved from eviction

JOBURG - NAB has come to the rescue of a home for the destitute that threatened with eviction.

Thanks to a R16 000 donation from the Newspaper Advertising Bureau, the Hayani Support Project has managed to avoid eviction and put down a deposit to buy their previously rented house.

“The Hayani Support Project has been living in a rented house for years under threat of eviction,” said Justine Williams, national sales manager of the bureau.

They’ve wanted to renovate for some time but held back in case the eviction became a reality.”

The project based in Orange Grove is a daycare and residential care service for destitute women, children and orphans, providing outreach work in townships and

other previously disadvantaged areas. ‘Hayani’ is a Tshivenda word meaning home.

“Fortunately they were able to put in an offer on the house when it was placed on the market and the bureau contribution went towards making a much needed deposit. They are able to service the bond repayments through monthly corporate donations.

“Mary Mudau, who runs the home is the most phenomenal woman, a lifesaver to these kids,” said Williams. “We’re really pleased to have had the opportunity to help make their festive season a little bit brighter.”

Mudau added, “On behalf of all at Hayani Support Project for the destitute women and children I would like to thank the bureau for having chosen Hayani. It might be small to you but to us it’s surely a blessing. We truly are grateful for the donation. This donation would be used towards the deposit of a property to house Hayani children.”

Hayani Support Project is a registered non-profit organisation with a Section 18A tax status with Sars.
