Tip-off leads to arrest

JOBURG - A tip-off by a community member led Bramley police to a 26-year-old man in Alexandra whom they arrested for allegedly breaking into a storage facility.

Police said a security guard who works and lives at the facility on 12th Road in Kew, had apparently fallen asleep the previous night and upon waking up the next morning, he realised that there had been a break-in at the facility.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the suspect had allegedly gained access to the premises by removing barb wire and forcing the gate open. He said the suspect was able to reach the main door at the facility while avoiding detection.

Maphakela said, “Several items were stolen including a TV set, clothing and energy drinks. However, we are still waiting for a full list of stolen items from the owner of the building.” The value of stolen items is estimated to be R100 000.

Police recovered some of the items from the suspect and he is expected to appear at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on charges of breaking and entering, theft and possession of stolen goods.
