Alex carnival aims to inspire

ALEXANDRA - The Alexandra Street Carnival will take place on December 8 at Ellis Park.

The Alexandra Street Carnival will take place on 8 December at Ellis Park.

The carnival, which will embrace different styles of dance, is aimed at inspiring young people to play an active role in their lives.

Lebohang Setuke, choreographer and coordinator of the carnival said, “We are calling on people from different ages to come and participate. There are many challenges affecting young people in Alex like drugs, alcohol, crime and teenage pregnancy. We are trying to get children away from the streets and encourage them to do something better with their time.”

Setuke, who started dancing when he was 10 years old, believes that this will bring a positive change in his community. He said this was his way of giving back to the community.

Anyone who is interested in participating can go to Sankopano between 3pm and 5pm every day to practise.
