Ithute School gets facelift

ALEXANDRA - Ithute Primary School got a make-over from Coca-Cola RockCorps volunteers.

Ithute Primary school received a makeover.

This was after Coca-Cola RockCorps volunteers decorated the school’s walls by painting pictures. They also painted some of the classrooms.

Project Manager Xoliswa Moraka said, “The turnout has been good and the volunteers are showing great interest and understanding and are working well with the school. We have done about 30 so far and we plan to do around 38 projects.”

Coca-Cola RockCorps is a community-based project that was launched in Soweto in September and is aimed at mobilising young people to be active participants in their community.

Young people are encouraged to volunteer four hours of their time on a specific day to their communities. Speaking about her role in the project, volunteer Maria Khanye said she enjoyed giving back to communities.

“I have been a volunteer since the project started and I love helping others,” she said. “The experience has been great so far and it makes me feel good to know that I have made a difference in another person’s life.”

Ekukhanyisweni and Ithute Primary Schools had the biggest numbers in volunteers in the programme and were given tickets for a concert at Ellis Park featuring international artists Ciara and Busta Rhymes.
