Iphuteng crowned soccer champions of Alex primary schools

ALEXANDRA - Iphuteng Primary School win the Discovery Alexandra Primary School Soccer League finals.

Iphuteng Primary School’s soccer team won the Discovery Alexandra Primary School Soccer League final after beating Carter Primary School 1-0.

The winning goal was scored by Iphuteng substitute Matome Senomane.

Iphuteng coach Lota Kekana said it was a tough game but the boys pulled through. He said, “It was a long journey but we are happy that we won.”

Carter coach Andries Makwela said he was happy that his team made it to the finals. “Obviously we are sad that we did not win but I am happy about the way the boys played the game,” he said. Makwela said his boys would get better with time and that they would be changing their training techniques. “They have to attend all their practice sessions in order to improve as players,” he said. Both teams received medals and a trophy.

Discovery spokesperson Keenan Klizanie said the aim of the initiative was to encourage pupils of Alexandra primary schools to be more involved in sporting activities. “We want them to get access to coaching that will allow them to grow their skills and talent in soccer,” he said.
