On a wing and a prayer

ALEXANDRA - A prayer session was held for the Alexandra matrics at Sankopano Hall.

Matrics of Alexandra schools were given wise words at a prayer session at Sankopano Hall.

The session was attended by Obed Bapela, deputy minister in the Office of the Presidency, Raymond Martin, Gauteng Department of Education’s

district director for Johannesburg East, pastors, community leaders and pupils. With the slogan, Yes We Can, pupils were encouraged not to give up and to do their best in the upcoming exams.

Pastor Charles Mokoena opened with prayer, a scripture and some words of encouragement for the pupils. Through a demonstration, Pastor Bafana Khumalo emphasised the importance of time management while also advising pupils to believe in themselves.

“I wish you all pass because life does not end in matric,” said Bapela. He said the region had not done well in past exams and hoped that the 2013 group would increase the pass rate. He also encouraged pupils not to fear, but approach their studies with positivity.

Martin hoped the class of 2013 could increase the pass rate to 95 percent. “I believe in you and we all believe that you can do it,” he said.
