Gogo still waits for house to be rebuilt

ALEXANDRA - The house that was smashed by a car in extension 10 has still not been rebuild by the City of Johannesburg.

A house in Alexandra that was destroyed when a car smashed into it three months ago has yet to be rebuilt by the City of Johannesburg.

It seems no one is taking responsibility to repair the house in extension 10 that belongs to Nomgqibelo Mkhwanazi. Councillor Joyce Ngwenya said the house would be rebuilt by the City of Johannesburg’s housing department. She said, “I have sent the matter to the housing department and they should take care of it.”

Acting director of the Alexandra Renewal Project, Neels Letter said they were not responsible for building the house. “The house has been passed on to the beneficiary, we only have to facilitate the building process,” Letter said.

Mkhwanazi’s son-in-law, Simon Mahlati said they were promised that the house would be reconstructed, but nothing had been done. He said, “It is not right that it takes so long to rebuild the house.”

Mkhwanazi is living in another house that the housing department has allocated her while the tussle as to who builds the smashed house continues.
