A flood of tears for Alex woman

ALEXANDRA - A woman has been sweeping water out of her house for three weeks.

A woman on 18th Avenue close to the Juskei River, has been distressed because of water flooding into her house for three weeks.

The housing department has failed to assist her.

Sylvia Nthati had been going to the housing department almost daily for three weeks, but all she was told was that there were procedures to follow. “I don’t understand because every day I have to mop the floor and put mats down as well,” Nthati said.

The water has damaged some of her furniture and there is constant dampness. “The house smells terrible and my granddaughter has started coughing too. How is this better living for all,” she said in tears.

Simon Moloko, head of department for Region E said he would look into the case. He said, “We get a lot of complaints daily so we try our best to help the community.”
