Beauty queen wants to change image of Alex
ALEXANDRA - A Realogile High school pupil and beauty queen is determined to change the negative image that people have of Alexandra.
Miss Face of Black Rose Academy, Dineo Mthombeni, has taken under her wing some fellow high schools pupils who are rehearsing for the upcoming beauty competition on 7 September.
Mthombeni said taking these children under wing was her way of giving back to her community, without which she would not be what she is today, Miss Face of Black Rose Academy. “I want to teach these young children so they can become role models and ambassadors for other children as well and the society at large,” she said.
“I want to give back the experience and knowledge I have gained as Miss Face of Black Rose Academy to create opportunities for these young kids of Alexandra,” Mthombeni said.
Mthombeni, a Grade 12 pupil at Realogile High School, was crowned Miss Face of Black Rose Academy last year and is determined to change the negative image of Alexandra. “I want to change the negative things people say about Alex and put the township back on the pedestal it was many years ago when it was the epic centre all the vibe of Johannesburg,” said Mthombeni, who dreams of being Miss South Africa one day.
She hopes to enter for the Miss South Africa pageant after taking the Miss South Africa Teen competition, and by so doing, raise the flag of Alexandra. Alexandra is the oldest township but with no opportunities for the youth and her role will be to make the township a better place to live in. “I would like to see all the people of Alexandra joining hands and being united and stepping out to help one another.”
“We should stop having doubts and negative thoughts about Alexandra, because if we don’t stand on our own feet and unite, people will never have interest in sponsoring activities of Alexandra,” she said.
