Woman robbed in attempted hijacking

ALEXANDRA - A Brakpan motorist travelling through Alex on Vincent Tshabalala Road on her way to work in Sandton City survived an armed hijacking just a little before 8am

The road had just been reopened for motorists, after the morning protest, when she got stuck in heavy traffic due to a malfunctioning robots on 8th Avenue.

Two hooded boys aged in their early twenties approached her car while in the traffic and without a word produced their guns and used them to smash the windows.

Once the windows had been smashed, they then demanded a her and her colleague’s cellphones.

She insisted she had no cellphone and one of the boys grabbed hold of her arm and demanded she handover the ring on her finger.

When she again insisted it does not come off easily and that it needs to be lubricated with soap.

He then ordered her out of the car but before she get out, he noticed his accomplice running away with the woman’s handbag and followed suit with the keys to her BMW.

The bag was in the back seat of the car and had about R900 and including her identity document, other personal belongings and bank cards.

They disappeared into the thicket of shacks adjacent to the road. She said no shots were fired or anyone injured in the attempted hijacking.

The woman, who refused to be named, said she has been using this route to and from work every day for the past five years.
