Two robbers arrested

BRAMLEY - Police arrested two suspects after they allegedly robbed a popular fried chicken restaurant employee on his way to ask for a change at the nearest bank.

According to the police the employee was carrying more than R2 000, walking at the intersection of Louis Botha Avenue and Forest Road when he was approached by a man who pushed him against the wall.

Bramley police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela said the suspect allegedly pointed the victim on his waist with a firearm and demanded money and other valuables. “He searched the complainant and took the money and his cellphone and fled the scene.”

While he was running , the suspect allegedly dropped the victim’s cellphone and the victim managed to recover it and followed the suspect. Maphakela said while the victim was following the suspect, two men approached him pretending to be willing to offer him some help but only to grab his cellphone and ran away in the same direction as the first suspect.

“The complainant followed them while they were swearing at him and telling him not to look at their faces.” Maphakela said the victim saw a police officer on the street and approached her and she monitored the suspects’ movements while she was calling her colleagues for back up.

“The police cornered and arrested the two suspects while the other one with the firearm managed to run away.”

They will appear at Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court soon.
