Local football club host awards ceremony to honour hard working players

ALEXANDRA– United players to display a high sense of respect and discipline in the community and continue to be community ambassadors in schools at all times.


The chairperson of United Stars Football Club, Sakhile Zulu has urged community members and parents to continue supporting local youngsters in every sports code they participate in.

Zulu was speaking at the club’s awards ceremony that was held at Thusong Youth Centre to honour those who went the extra mile in helping the team to success last year.

United was crowned winners of the U13 Masters Tournament and champions of the Alexandra Northrand Football Association (ANLFA) U17 league.

“If you want to be successful and win in life, you must show respect and discipline at all times, wherever you go. You must love and dedicate yourself in what you do,” said Zulu.

Itumeleng Morake, the U13 team’s top goal scorer and player of the year said dedication and discipline were what attributed to his success.

“Every time we play I make sure that I am giving my all,” he said.

“The only secret I can share with my teammates and other young people is that you need to work hard and give your all. I don’t rest or relax until the last whistle in every match we play.”

ANLFA deputy chairperson Lusanda Jika lauded United players for their achievements and called upon all community members to support local football.
