LRC unveils sponsor, honours players

ALEXANDRA – LRC FC unveiled its kit sponsor and also took the opportunity to honour its outstanding players from a recent tournament in Honeydew.

If you ever thought religion and football could never go hand-in-hand, then you had better think again.

The Love Reaching Community church organisation (LRC), formerly London Road Church, has managed to marry the two to perfection in Alexandra.

The LRC, which is a community of worshippers now based on the corner of 8th Avenue and Alfred Nzo Street next to the fire station, runs a successful soccer club by the same name. Since affiliating to the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association six months ago, league maidens LRC FC are making waves in Alexandra’s football world.

Speaking at a ceremony to unveil their sponsor and honour outstanding players from a recent tournament in Honeydew, club chairperson and youthful community leader Jacob Setshedi said, “We could not afford to change our name each time the street name changed.

“We have managed to secure a sponsor for our kit requirements, and we recently took all our divisions to a tournament in Honeydew and reached the finals with our U20s, though we lost on penalties; while our U10s, U13s, U15s and U17s all reached the semis and were all knocked out on penalties too.

“We also reached the quarterfinals of the Map Games 2016 with all our divisions. This is the good news that I would like to share with you as I unveil our kit sponsor.”

The club has secured a kit sponsorship from Rosebank-based Xerox Digilogix, whose representative Joseph Pooe said although there was no

formal agreement between the two parties, he was hopeful that at some point the relationship could be formalised.

He added that the company was committed to helping the club in future and they had donated a full soccer kit for each player in the various divisions, a first-aid kit, balls and cones for training sessions, and will provide transport for the club’s games outside Alex.

“We would love to see the club prosper and develop into a formidable force to be reckoned within football circles in Alexandra and beyond, including going to play in the prestigious Premier Soccer League,” Pooe said.
