Her stockings are striped and long, her pigtails are arched like wings, she’s… Pippi Longstocking, the immortal creation of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren.

National Children’s Theatre (NCT) is proud to present the classic children tale Pippi Longstocking, one of the world’s most loveable and most famous children’s characters from Tuesday 27 September 2016.
This production of Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren, is a new adaptation for the stage by Staffan Götestam with music, songs and lyrics by Sebastian, and is directed by NCT resident artistic director Francois Theron.
What child wouldn’t want to live like Pippilotta Delicatessa Windowshade Mackrelmint Ephrainm’s Daughter Longstocking? She doesn’t go to school, nobody tells her when to go to bed, she carries a suitcase full of gold, and she lives all by herself in her own house, Villa Villekula, with a horse and a pet monkey.
The blend of songs, dancing and theatrical fun make a charming and highly entertaining adventure, all combining to create a magical show for the entire family. Join Pippi, her monkey, Mr. Nilsson, and her pet horse (of course!) as they bounce from adventure to mischievous new adventure.
Pippi Longstocking has for many years been a great favourite with South African children, and Moira Katz, CEO of NCT is thrilled that she’s been able to assemble a wonderful production team. “The actors are young, bright and full of energy, and the play is jam-packed with action and lovely songs. We can’t wait to let Pippi loose on our audiences – they’re in for a fantastic interactive experience. “
There is much learning to take away from the play and an educational enrichment guide is available for schools to use as support material in the classroom.
