Socialite, Jan Ndhlovu, calls for revival of youth centres in Alexandra township

ALEXANDRA – Socialite believes the revival of youth centres could save our youth from nyaope.

Alex socialite, Jan Ndhlovu, who was the master of ceremonies at the opening of the Alex Mall, has called for the revival of youth centres in the township.

“I still feel we need the youth centres that played a major role in shaping our artistic, sporting and cultural legends of those years. Our yesteryear youth were so disciplined as a result of the mentorship and guidance they obtained from those centres,” said Ndhlovu.

“Let’s revive the youth centres – let’s get the children off the streets and away from mischief, and the only way to do this is by bringing back the youth centres such as Entokozweni, which produced most of our heroes and heroines in the various spheres of artistic work.”

Ndhlovu said nowadays streets have become as ‘dangerous as anacondas as they swallow our youth, who are also being consumed by drugs and other criminal activities. This is all because we have lost touch with the youth or allowed those institutions that helped shape our former stars to collapse’.
