Female murder suspect nabbed two years after the incident

ALEXANDRA – A murdered man’s lover fails to appear in court – case postponed.

A female suspect who was arrested two years after the alleged murder of her boyfriend, had her case postponed after she failed to appear at the Alexandra Magistrates Court.

This, after her legal representative cited financial problems for her failure to attend the hearing. Her R2 000 bail was further extended.

The crime, which the suspect admitted to, citing self-defence, occurred in Illovo in December 2014. The suspect disappeared from the area and was arrested two years later after a witness spotted her near the crime scene.

She told the police she disappeared after the deceased’s relatives assaulted her, after the incident.

The couple is said to have fought after her boyfriend accused her of having a relationship on the side, with the witness. In the process, she hit him on the head with an object and he collapsed.

The witness, who claimed to have been accused by the deceased of the relationship, which he denied, said he heard a noise in the room and then a fight.

After the fight ended, he went to their room where he found the boyfriend slumped in a chair with blood on his clothes and the suspect, standing next to him, holding her head. He claimed she told him that her boyfriend provoked the fight after alleging she and the witness were lovers.

Emergency Medical Services transported the injured man to a hospital but he died days later at his place, not long after he was discharged. His relatives allegedly beat the accused, forcing her to disappear from the area for her own safety.
