Alex’s Class of 2017 encouraged to do well
ALEXANDRA - Current matric pupils from four of the five high schools in the township are given motivational talks to encourage them to do well at the final examinations at the end of the year.
Forty of the brightest minds and the cream of the crop of Alex’s potential 2017 matriculants were celebrated as 10 certificates were awarded to the top 10 achievers of four of the township’s five high schools.
The event was organised by the newly established Alexandra Innovation Hub, which is a youth-centered innovation hub focused on delivering meaningful exposure to the youth of Alexandra.
The hub hosted its first ever event, which was a pre-matric prizegiving for this year’s matrics based on their Grade 11 results.
“We are trying to motivate the current matrics to do all they can to perform well in the final matric examinations at the end of the year,” said founding chairperson of the hub, Shaun Mpho Lanto.
The event was held at the Phuthaditjhaba Centre, a community centre that takes care of grannies and granddads, the youth and the creche-going toddlers of the township. The centre was founded by philanthropist, Linda Clement Twala.
“Our aim with the prize-giving is to try and inspire the current matric group to work harder and provide them with wise words of motivation from our various guest speakers, who encouraged them to work hard to achieve their goals in life,” Lanto said.
At the event, a donor, who wanted to remain anonymous, made a R10 000 pledge to the Alex Innovation Hub Education Fund for the female matric student who is the highest achiever in this year’s final exams at the end of the year.
