49 suspects arrested in one week

ALEXANDRA – Drug dealing and assault, among other crimes, are keeping Alex police officers busy.

Alex police officers arrested 49 suspects for various crimes and attended to 16 reported offences in the week ending 26 February.

According to the spokesperson for Alexandra Police Station, Lieutenant Allie Kodisang, the arrests were as follows:

  • 1 for attempted murder
  • 2 for rape
  • 10 for assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • 10 for common assault
  • 4 for malicious damage to property
  • 2 for business robbery
  • 1 for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 for possession of stolen property
  • 1 for possession of housebreaking instruments
  • 1 for possession of reported stolen motor vehicle
  • 11 for illegal possession and dealing in drugs
  • 3 for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition
  • 1 for shoplifting
  • 1 for theft.

Reported cases were as follows:

  • 1 for murder
  • 2 for rape
  • 4 for theft out of motor vehicle
  • 4 for residential burglary
  • 1 for house robbery
  • 1 for business robbery
  • 2 for robbery with firearm
  • 1 for motor vehicle hijacking.
