#Dineo storm warning in Joburg is fake

JOBURG – Close your windows, shut your doors, storm Dineo is NOT hitting Joburg this weekend.

South African Weather Services has been fielding calls about storm Dineo hitting Johannesburg tonight.

The service has stressed that it is a fake weather alert and confirmed that there may be a 30 per cent possibility of showers.

No storm the size of Dineo will be hitting Joburg tonight or this weekend, according to the SA Weather Services.

The wind that Johannesburg is experiencing now will die down with mild temperatures of between 25 to 26 degrees. Sunday has a 60 per cent chance of rain.

Just in case there is some heavy rain, here are some tips you can follow to keep safe:

  • Make sure all equipment is switched off and unplugged
  • Make sure all windows and doors are closed and locked
  • For today, try not to work after hours (due to challenges you may face if a storm hits and you end up not getting home)
  • For any challenge one may face en route, let your colleagues know about it and your whereabouts, so as to send an SOS.

The following steps are to be followed at home

  • Make sure all equipment is switched off and unplugged
  • Make sure all windows and doors are closed and locked
  • Suspend all planned trips, drives or outings and be with your loved ones
  • Make sure you do not have open fires, gas or candles on (keep torches and warm clothing handy).
