While in court facing a robbery charge, a habitual criminal with a colorful record of petty crimes, rape and murder dating back to his teens has been linked to a burglary that took place in 2015.
Peter Maphula (44) of Alex was appearing in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court when fingerprints linked him to a housebreaking that occurred at a Woodmead guest house in 2015, where TV sets and bed linen worth R35 000 were stolen. He was denied bail.
- Investigations revealed his previous crimes include:
- Housebreaking and robbery in 1986
- Three convictions in 1988: two for theft and one for theft and housebreaking
- Housebreaking in 1989
- Rape in 1990
- Attempted murder in 1990.
