Man shot dead at Morningside pizza outlet

ALEXANDRA – KZN official's mistaken identity leads to murder shooting of victim at a Morningside pizza outlet.

A murder suspect was granted bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court after the murder of a man at a pizza outlet in Morningside.

The incident occurred at about 3am on 9 January in the presence of several people, among them a senior official said to be from a KwaZulu-Natal municipality.

It is alleged that the deceased, who was with a girlfriend and a male friend, and the 37-year-old suspect, who was with the official and two others, became involved in a fracas at the outlet. This apparently, after the official had said she was familiar with the victim. When the victim said he did not know her and wanted clarity about the mistaken identity, one of the official’s companions allegedly told the victim not to engage with the official. This apparently infuriated the deceased who, with his friend, assaulted the companion for allegedly interfering. He was later hospitalised.

The fight prompted the official to run out of the outlet to the suspect who by then was in his vehicle. She returned with him and he allegedly shot and killed the victim. It is also claimed that he shot the deceased’s friend in the neck who is said to be in intensive care at a local hospital.

The suspect, official and companion were said to have handed themselves in at the Alex Police Station where the suspect was detained pending a court appearance.
