Severe weather threats for Gauteng

JOHANNESBURG – Johannesburg residents warned to be prepared for severe weather conditions.

Residents of Johannesburg have been warned to take several safety precautions amidst the threat of thunderstorms and flash floods, which are expected to continue into the week.

The threatened areas included Alexandra, Lanseria, Fourways, Paulshof, Driezik, Kliptown and Robertville. Media liaison officer for the City of Johannesburg Emergency Services, Robert Mulaudzi said, “We have officially entered into thunderstorm season.”

Motorists and residents are strongly encouraged by the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services to avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges. Mulaudzi also urged residents to stay up-to-date by monitoring radio or television broadcasts regarding emergency weather reports. “Residents residing in the low-lying areas like our 189 informal settlements are urged to monitor water levels and move to higher ground when the water levels rise,” he said.

However, according to the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services social media feed, Gauteng is currently experiencing sunny skies and highs of 28 degrees.

The City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services remain on high alert in order to promptly act in response to any emergency.
