Johannesburg Central Police arrested a 25-year-old man for common robbery and possession of a police appointment certificate on 3 December at about 2pm.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, it is alleged that the suspect robbed a 30-year-old woman of her cellphone on the corner of Hoek and Noord streets on the same day.
Mbele said the victim followed the suspect until she saw a police vehicle and alerted the officers. The police stopped the suspect and searched him. “The cellphone was not recovered, only a fake police appointment certificate was recovered from him,” Mbele said.
He added that an investigation was underway and the suspect was appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court today, 5 December.
