Roads worker robbed of grass-cutting machine

An incensed motorists assaults then robs a roads worker.

Alex police are investigating an alleged assault and robbery by an armed motorist on the N3 on-ramp from Vincent Tshabalala Road.

Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the incident happened midday on 21 November.

The victim, a roads contract worker was cutting grass on the road verge when the suspect in a Chevrolet bakkie, allegedly without number plates, passed him, stopped about 100 metres ahead and then reversed back. The suspect asked the victim if he knew what he had done to his vehicle, this after a stone had allegedly shot out of the cutter and struck the vehicle.

When the victim denied knowledge of any wrongdoing, the driver became infuriated, got out of the vehicle and grabbed the grass-cutter. The two struggled for the machine until the victim surrendered when the driver pointed to a gun in his holster on his waist. The man then allegedly drove off with the machine valued at R4 400.
